The Member of Parliament for the Biakoye Constituency, Hon. Jean-Marie Formadi, has successfully carried out a major public infrastructure intervention with the distribution of 800 street lights to selected communities, marking a significant step towards improving security and enhancing night-time visibility across the area.

The event, which took place at Nkonya Wurupong on Tuesday morning, drew a large gathering of party executives, ward coordinators, assembly members from Kwamekrom and Nkonya, as well as enthusiastic residents from surrounding communities. The exercise formed part of the MP’s broader agenda to promote development, strengthen local safety, and support socio-economic activities within the constituency.
In her address, Hon. Formadi reaffirmed her commitment to addressing key challenges affecting her constituents, particularly issues related to poor lighting and insecurity at night. She noted that the installation of the street lights would not only reduce crime rates but also enable traders, transport operators, and other residents to carry out their activities more safely and efficiently after dark.
She emphasised that development is not only about large-scale projects but also about practical interventions that directly impact daily life. According to her, the distribution of the street lights is one of several initiatives lined up to ensure that communities within the constituency continue to experience steady progress and improved living conditions.
Community leaders and residents who attended the programme expressed their appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely and necessary. Many highlighted the challenges they have faced over the years due to inadequate street lighting, including increased cases of theft and difficulty in moving around at night.
Assembly members present at the event pledged their support in ensuring that the street lights are properly installed and maintained. They also called on residents to take collective responsibility in protecting the facilities from damage or theft.
The atmosphere at the venue was one of optimism and unity, as stakeholders across different levels came together to witness what many described as a practical demonstration of responsive leadership. The distribution exercise was carried out smoothly, with clear coordination among organisers and local representatives.
This initiative is expected to have a lasting impact on the beneficiary communities, contributing to safer neighbourhoods and improved economic activity, especially during evening hours. It also reinforces the importance of grassroots-focused development in addressing pressing community needs.
As the Biakoye Constituency continues to pursue growth and transformation, interventions such as this street light distribution serve as a reminder of the role of leadership in driving meaningful change at the local level.
